Please contact Dr. Qaiyumi for more information.

India Cultural and Education Center Continuing Medical Education Division became operational in January 1999. Initially the main objective of this division was to bring all physicians and allied health care workers of Indian origin together at ICEC for Continuing Medical Education and social interaction among peers and pharmaceutical representatives. A secondary goal was to raise funds for the ICEC to help defray the cost of building maintenance and repay the outstanding loan.

The first Continuing Medical Education Seminar was held at ICEC on March 13, 1999. Sixty-nine physicians and their spouses attended and received category 1 credits towards the AMA Physician Recognition Award from the University of Florida College of Medicine Continuing Medical Education Division. Since then, these seminars have been held on a semi-annual basis and each of them have been attended by more than sixty physicians and their spouses in addition to several pharmaceutical company representatives. All seminars were supported by generous grants from pharmaceutical companies.

In January of 2001, the officers of ICEC Continuing Medical Education Committee decided to offer these seminars to all the physicians of the Alachua, Marion, Putnam, Columbia and Citrus County areas.  Subsequently, about 87 physicians, one physician’s assistant and one ARNP attended the 6th CME Seminar on April 28th 2001. Several excellent speakers presented information about advances in the medical field.  Dr. Umesh Mhatre, MD invited a patient to give her personal experience with domestic violence.  It was an outstanding, heart felt and effective presentation. The evaluation of speakers, facility and overall quality of program received high ratings.
