Motorcycle throttle sticks / idles too high & too low, Ideas?

Hey. 1982 Yamaha Virago 750cc. I recently rebuilt and cleaned the carbs and flushed the fuel system. Now it either idles really high, like 2500 rpms, or it bogs at 500 and dies. Nothing in between.

When you cleaned the carbs, did you check the throttle cable and twist grip for smooth operation? One way is to disconnect the cable from the carbs. You should be able roll the twist grip (throttle) back and forth and the cable will move in and out of the housing.

About the only thing I can think of it to rub the slide and inside the carb body with some fine wet/dry paper, probably about an 800 grade.
The only other solution is to check the twist grip isn't getting stuck, as you have replaced just about all the other moving comp

2012 Star V Star 250 | Preview

2012 Star Motorcycle

For those who want to enter the world of motorcycling aboard a V-Twin cruiser, the choices are slim, especially if you want something in the 250cc class.

But Star has this entry-level motorcycle covered with the V Star 250, the only V-Twin in the 250 cruiser class. And the bike returns for 2012.

The lightweight cruiser sits just 27 inches from the ground, and supplies enough power to get the V Star 250 up to speed.

But just because the 2012 Star V Star 250 is an entry-level cruiser doesn't mean the company owned by Yamaha skimped on some styling. The V Star 250 features dual exhaust, plenty of chrome for that "big bike" look and 282mm single-front disc brake for some massive stopping power.

The V Star 250 arrives in showrooms as a carry-over model, with the only new addition being more comfortable handlebars.

Rated at 78 mpg and offered for under $4,200, the V Star 250 V-Twin will surely bring the joy of cruising to those who want to begin small.

A couple questions about throttle cables and throttle return spring ...

1995 Shadow Spirit VT1100C. I had a throttle cable (pull) come loose while I was riding yesterday. I have never looked at this area of the bike with any detail before so I essentially was inspecting this area for the first time. The cable had come loose down by the cam that is housed on the side of the carb. I thought I had it all put back together correctly and ready to ride but now my throttle in both directions is very tight and will not snap back if I let off the hand throttle (pull). I am wondering if I have a sticky cable. With no cables attached, the carb is operating as it should, opens and snaps back. I was also wondering if I reinstalled the return spring on the throttle cable cam by rotating the spring clockwise until there was tension on the spring and then placing it on the shaft....
