Before anyone tells me to go to a junkyard, my problem is the spring thats on here is the origional blue GM spring and its 20 years old. Yet Another Carburetor Question - AACA Forums

I am rebuilding the carb from my 52 special. It's a carter wcd #882SA. It's my first carb and I'm having a blast learning how it all works but anyway, on to my question. When I was adjusting the pump, in my manual it tells me to bend the upper angle of the throttle connector rod. Well which angle is it talking about? I've made a rough sketch of it below. Do I bend the blue angle or the green angle? I hope it's not the green angle because I sort of already bent the blue one before I put a lot of thought into it. I have since re-assembled the carb and put it on the car and now I have about a 1/4 inch of slack and/or play in the throttle/pedal linkages that is causing my car to idle way too fast until I pull the throttle down that last 1/4 inch by hand. It's almost like its sticking. I've done some research on here and based on other queries I've already adjusted the pedal linkages, throttle stop screw, and the dash pot as well as installed...
