Briggs and stratton Throttle Return Spring

Briggs & Stratton carburetor rebuild on my Simplicity | Valves Ball

The 4212 (Regent), when running is a real brute on the grass cutting, especially on my anything but flat landscape. I bought it used (and abused) and had to unfreeze the steering before anything else. When I tore down the carburetor, the bowl had what looked like vanilla pudding in it (to the rim). I’ve had difficulty in getting it to idle smoothly, and not go into “surging” mode. Perhaps the missing spring (on order), but where does it go?

My guess would be replace the tank fitting with the carb fitting (shutoff), the big difference is the tank fitting has an integrated filter screen. go with an external filter (easier to replace/ clean). This carb appears to be the same as I have on my 4212 Simplicity. Where I am having problems getting the governor back into smooth operation (long spring to throttle missing, Any good hints on dealing with the “choke-a-matic” setup?...

79 jeep CJ7 258 I6 throttle cable hookup - JeepsUnlimited.com ...

I am not sure of the location of the throttle cable return spring on our CJ (1 barrel carb). We have a YJ body on a CJ7 frame and everything else is CJ. We attached the throttle cable which seems a bit loose and we can't figure out where to hook the return spring. I have a pic for you. Right now, we have the spring temporarily hooked to a zip strap to see how the throttle feels. It feels fine but we still have some play in the cable. Do I need to change out the cable due to using the YJ body? I shouldn't have to but it just doesn't seem right. If anyone has a pic to follow, I would appreciate it.
