Dodge Neon - Why am I finding oil in the bottom of my intake manifold ?

I hadn't taken off the throttle body and hose before and when i shined a flashlight into the intake manifold i could see a small puddle of oil resting at the bottom.

Why am I...

The oil is the remaining residue from the blow-by gases routed through the PVC system.
It's more of a common problem on the up to '99 Neon's as they had a EGR valve as well but the '00 and up Neon's eliminated the EGR valve.

2001 neon intake manifold?

can i take the intake manifold and throttle body setup off an older SOHC and swap it onto mine and it work perfectly fine

Short answer is no.

The 1st gen intake manifold will "bolt up" to the head, no problem.
It has provisions for an EGR system, so you will have to block that off somehow.

Any engine can benefit from a catch can. Piston engines produce pressure in the crankcase as the pistons pump up and down. If that pressure were to build, it can reduce ring seal and hence the purpose of the ventilation system. Due to emission standards however, that pressure cannot be vented to the atmosphere. The OEMs solution is to route the vapors into the intake manifold so that it can be burned in the combustion chamber. Over time this can cause problems for your engine. The gases from the crankcase carry emulsified oil that coats the intake runners (producing that sludge you see when you remove the manifold on a high-mileage engine) and degrades the octane of the atomized fuel entering the combustion chamber. A vehicle's ECU will protect the engine by reducing timing, but performance suffers adding a tune can aggravate the problem in the sense that you won't be getting the performance that the tune was designed to produce.
