If you need to replace your melted intake plenum, use this one. This Dorman item comes with the required gaskets, and also includes a new pcv valve. The price is MUCH lower than any local auto parts store ($130) for the same item. If you plan on swapping this part yourself I would HIGHLY... -
Beware of Dorman LLT warranty buying through Amazon
**Beware of the LLT warranty on Dorman parts, read on further. I bought this exact part in 2009 from Amazon for my 1997 Park Ave 3.8L. This Dorman part, as many Dorman parts, have a LLT warranty so I purchased the Dorman product from Amazon. Now it's 2011 & 10000 miles later & my mechanic tells...

I've learned that my '89 Olds has an intake manifold leak. I can't really afford to fix it just now (assuming that the cost will be more than I can come up with).
IT all depends.
A coolant leak is quite serious: 1.) You wil loverheat the engine and ruin it. or 2.) You will get water in the oil and ruin the engine

I've had my 99 Pontiac Montana diagnosed to have a leaking intake manifold gasket. Cost to replace is about $700. Does this seem right? Can I let it go? Or get 'stop leak'?

Drat, It's Time to Put the Boat Away
I hate to even think about putting the boat away for the winter. It happens every year, and every year I hem and haw and find excuses not to do it. It’s just one of those ugly tasks that have to get done before the freezing winds of November sends me burrowing into another long winter.
Winterizing my fishing boat is one of the least pleasant things I do during the course of the year, but the alternative is even uglier.
The reality is, if I don’t properly prepare the boat before storing it for the winter, next spring I won’t be a happy camper when I discover that my outboard is nothing but an expensive weight hanging on the transom.
Fortunately, there are some quick, relatively painless things you can do now which will ensure you have no surprises next spring when you have a line forming behind you at the boat ramp.
The simplest of all the things you can do is to run your engine dry to empty to fuel system. Gasoline deteriorates surprisingly quickly, and can turn into a varnish-like substance guaranteed to prevent starting, and encourage profanity, next spring.
Intake Manifold Gasket is leaking - Buick Forums
I replaced the lower intake manifold gaskets and the upper intake manifold assembly on our 2000 Buick LeSabre last August. Upper intake was $116 and the GM aluminum gaskets for the lower intake were $60. New oil and filter plus antifreeze add another $40, new thermostat and incidentals add another $30, my cost was about $250. The time it took me was about 11 hours as this was my first. A good mechanic should be able to turn this around in a lot less time say 5 hours as a guess. Take it from there, my two cents worth. Your intake is in 2 parts (an upper and lower intake). They just need to be inspected to see if the upper (plastic) intake plenum is cracked/broken in any way. If not broken, then just a gasket is required. Online the gasket will run you $25-$45 or. While I have the upper off, I'd also go ahead and do the lower intake gasket as well (this will normally cost you $25-$30 or so)....
How much to fix "large vaccuum leak" miss-fire for 1997 Jeep Grand ...
No, not a big deal. The vacuum system serves a few main purposes on todays vehicles. The vacuum is created by a hose hooked to your intake manifold. The suction of the motor creates a pressure in this line less than atmospheric pressure(14.7psi at sea level) As the engine rev's increase, the vacuum increases(ie the pressure goes from 10 psi at 3000rpm to 3psi at 7500rpm – these numbers vary based on the displacement of the engine, size of vacuum line, etc.) This was an ingenious system when it was invented because it served the purpose of actually turning the distributor to advance the timing as the engine speed up-greatly increasing horsepower(purpose 1). Nowadays ignition advance is usually controlled by the ECU. The ECU has a vacuum input so it can monitor similar functions. The third thing it does is powers your brakes. This is probably where your leak is. on the other side of the firewall from your brake pedal is a rubber boot with a vacuum hose connected to it-inside this boot there is a vacuum. When you push your brake, you push a hydraulic actuator inside this boot. Because the pressure outside the boot is 14.7psi and inside the boot it is less, the atmospheric pressure applies extra force on the hydraulic cylinder, aiding your braking. A "major" leak probably means this is where your leak is, because the rest of your vacuum lines are pretty easy to follow and notice a crack(small leak). The part is probably $75 and you're looking at 1 or 2 hours labor to put it on, so about $225-$250 to answer your question. If they want to charge you more labor to "diagnose" the problem or find the leak, go someplace else. Vacuum leaks are not hard to find if you are a good mechanic.

As far as the intake manifold, there are only a few choices from Jon Kaase to match the cylinder heads. He offers a nice single-plane intake, similar to the Edelbrock Victor 460 intake. It's offered in either a 4150 or a 4500 (Dominator) flange.
