I have heard that these reusable filters can actually help out a good deal with gas mileage.
ebay may have a bunch up, but that can be quite a hassle, I've personally gotten screwed over by a few sellers there. For something like a K&N, i have found a store that worked for me. Quick ship out and cheapest price i could find compared to over at my local AutoZone.

The air filter price sounds normal, but I called Valvoline (my oil change place) and they only charge $119 for a transmission fluid flush. I didn't mention this to the Toyota dealer, but I did ask them what type of transmission fluid they use....
I think the price is about right.
Parts stores sells after-market are filters about $15 plus tax (that's the cheapest). They are a little different than the OEM filters.
Valvoline should use some multi grade fluid, which is for use with a few makes.
