Wanted to know if anyone knows of a cheap alternative oil to use on my K&N air filter?
The K&N recharger kit that comes with the cleaner AND oil only costs $10 at most parts stores. And it's good for at least three cleanings.
There's really no reason to potentially destroy your $50 filter for lack of a $10 kit.

A simple dust-off is not sufficient, especially for hoes, rakes and shovels that have gotten a lot of use during the summer.
"The first thing to do is to give your tools a good cleaning, scraping off any dirt or debris," said Frank Fernicola, one of the owners of Fairfield Garden Center, Fairfield (fairfieldgardencenter.com ). "Be sure to dry off tools using an old rag before storing to prevent rust, especially on the tools that have some metal."
If necessary, soak them in soapy water to loosen debris that may be caked on. Rust spots should be removed with steel wool.
"There are no special cleaning products to use, but pruners, especially, should be wiped with alcohol to kill bacteria or fungus," Fernicola said. He explained that tools used to cut fresh wood may have been exposed to disease. The germs can continue to grow and possibly spread when they’re used next season.
