Customer Reviews:
  1. Clean is Better Than Dirty
Make no mistake, K & N filters are top notch, but beware of people who claim huge improvements in mileage and power (i.e. 10-15%). With the billions of dollars the auto industry has spent trying to improve gas mileage and power, every car made in the world would have these as original equipment...
  2. Great Price Ratio!
For under 40 bucks, this K&N filter was an excellent deal. Just on the fact it is washable/reuseable numerous time makes it a great deal already. After changing it, I did notice a smoother acceleration. As for it improving by a few HP, no idea on that.

A bit confused about air filter related to gas mileage?

I was wondering, How will a high flow air filter improve gas mileage? If more air goes into the piston chamber my car cpu will force more gas into the chamber at the same time, right?

I agree with you 100%. Folks get mad at me when I suggest the same thing. More air flow would initially make the engine run lean. The engine management system would detect the lean condition, and make adjustments. You'd be back where you started.

10 Tips to Drive Down the Cost of Driving

With gas prices sitting at all-time highs for this time of year , there’s really no getting around the price of getting around. And if you’re traveling long distances for the upcoming holidays, it’s important to pick up all the tips and tricks you can to help drive down the cost of driving.

Here are my top ten favorite tips to keep your car running smoothly (for less!).

Use the right gas: Are you sure that you’re using the best gasoline for your vehicle’s engine? Check your owner’s manual to find the right octane level for your car. Using a higher octane gas than recommended not only damages your engine, but also hurts your wallet. Avoid driving on “E:” Driving on low gas levels causes sediment from gasoline to settle at the bottom of your tank.

Ways to Increase Your Gas Mileage | How To Manage Money Tips

When this is taken care of, a car uses less gas. Look at the PSI number printed on the side of the tire. This number is usually higher than the number found in the owner’s manual. Using the PSI number will not only increase your gas mileage, but make your tires last longer. Once you have found the PSI, use a tire gauge to measure the air pressure. If the pressure is too low, then go to the gas station and add some more air. As the weather gets colder, the air pressure in a tire can drop very rapidly. Low tire pressure causes Americans to burn an extra 144 gallons of gas for every 12,000 miles driven. If gas costs $3.00 a gallon, then that is an extra $432 dollars that can fatten your wallet in this one easy step. Having the right amount of air in your tires will also increase your braking speed.

2. Replace Your Air Filter Look in your owner’s manual to determine how often this should be replaced. If you are driving in dirty conditions, it is usually a great idea to change it more often than recommended. When buying a new air filter, look for coupons. One great place to look is on Frugal Dad. If your car gets 20 miles per gallon, using a clean air filter will increase your fuel efficiency to 22 gallons. Again, if gas costs $3.00 a gallon, over 12,000 miles that is a savings of $162. Replacing the air filter as recommended will also increase the engine life....
