Changing Oil
While this is the most obvious and common step of preventative maintenance, it is perhaps the most overlooked and ignored. Ideally, both the oil and oil filter need to be changed every 3000 miles, if not less. If this is not done, the damage it can do to your engine over of period of time can make mending it rather expensive. The additives found in oil are prone to breaking down, making it thicker and thicker. This creates a lot of resistance in the engine and the engine begins to wear out under the strain.
