If by dryer you mean a line filter, they are always a good idea. Compressed air can be dirty and full of moisture which can cause premature wear and failure to anything it goes to. Not to say that your impact or whatever will fail in short time but it will only make it last that

Nov 05, 2011 (The Wilson Daily Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- RICHMOND, Va. -- It might take several years before tobacco produced by Ron and Dave Lamm of Lamm Farms in Sims arrives at Philip Morris USA's cigarette manufacturing plant in Richmond, Va.
Flue-cured tobacco the company buys from the Lamms and other local growers is shipped from the receiving station in Wilson to one of two local stemmeries with which Philip Morris USA contracts -- Alliance One in Farmville or Universal Leaf in Nashville.
After the stemmery, the tobacco can be put in storage or shipped directly to the Richmond plant, depending on the company's needs at that time.
Tobacco arriving at the cigarette plant -- where one in every two cigarettes smoked in the United States is produced -- is shipped in wooden hogsheads.
