No, unless something big and hard got sucked into the intake, like a stick or a clump of sand. Under average conditions you could actually drive a car for a long time without an air filter, but the engine would wear out significantly sooner. Normal air doesn't contain anything

I probably enjoyed this part more than any of the others when designing my own systems (especially exit strategies).
I would like to point out that your basic system should be profitable before adding any refinements/filters. If it is not profitable at the meat and potatoes stage, there is no sense in trying to polish a trading “turd”.
Another important item to cover is that you have to be VERY careful that you do not go crazy on adding filters and optimization. You should not expect to take a Ford Pinto and turn it into a Lamborghini. It is more like taking a high performance car and tweaking the default factory computer settings to get that extra bit of juice.
For the female traders out there it is like taking that outfit and pushing it over the top with designer shoes (my wife likes this analogy but not the joke). Again, any hate mail should be directed to www.mercenarytrader….
